12 Days of Pet Adoption Stories: Litter of Rescue Puppies Find Loving Families

We all know about the 12 Days of Christmas—the famous holiday carol about a lucky recipient receiving a series of gifts from their loved one. Although gifts can be a nice gesture, most can agree that the true joy of Christmas is being able to spend time at home surrounded by friends and family. Pets are entitled to the same comforts during the holidays, but unfortunately for the thousands of abandoned pets across the country, this isn’t always the case.

There are those pets who are lucky enough to receive the gift of love during the holidays—including those who may have not been ever able to experience this luxury before. In light of the season of giving, we’re offering 12 heartwarming pet adoption stories. These once-abandoned pets finally found their forever homes and are able to spend this Christmas surrounded by the best gift of all—love.

Mr. Bingley started his life as a shelter dog after his pregnant mother was abandoned on the streets in Fresno, CA and gave birth at a dog shelter.

Mr. Bingley’s mother had previously lived with her owners before they moved out of the state and left her to wander the streets. Once she was discovered by the dog shelter, her microchip was scanned, and the previous owners were contacted. Their reaction was one that would make most pet parents cringe.

“They refused to claim her,” says Mr. Bingley’s new owner, Sarah.

Shortly after, the mother gave birth to four puppies at the shelter. All were adopted, including the mother. The owner of the dog shelter was so smitten by the mother’s cheerful nature despite her troublesome journey that she couldn’t help but rescue her.

Mr. Bingley, one of the rescue puppies, struggled when he was first brought to the dog shelter after spending time in a foster home with one of the shelter’s volunteers. According to Sarah, Mr. Bingley was hand-raised with his three sisters in the volunteer’s kitchen for their first 8 weeks after birth to keep the new rescue puppies away from potential diseases.

“He was brought to the shelter on the day that we picked him up, and he was fearful of everything,” Sarah says. “He has these pitiful eyes that just begged for help and snuggles.”

With only a day’s notice, Sarah traveled for 4 hours to go through with Mr. Bigley’s animal adoption. “He had a rough start in life at the dog shelter, but is the happiest dog I’ve ever met. He is the runt of the litter at just 5 pounds, but he has found a big place in our hearts,” she says.

Six months after the animal adoption, Sarah says that Mr. Bingley is enjoying his new digs and all the love his new family is surrounding him with. “He is still fearful of certain things, but we are working to get him acclimated and socialized,” she says.

Mr. Bingley enjoys spending time with Sarah’s other pup, Mr. Darcy. “They love to be together and never want to be separated. Mr. Darcy is a very active dog and drags Mr. Bingley along in their many adventures,” she says.

“I am so grateful that I got to provide this dog a loving home. He had a rough start in the world, but belongs to our family now,” Sarah says.
