Lizzy Greene Inspires a New Generation to Advocate for Animals

With over a million Instagram followers and legions of devoted “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn” fans worldwide, Nickelodeon star and actress Lizzy Greene is using her spotlight for the greater good: animal advocacy.

The outspoken animal lover is not only a dog mom (to 7-year-old German Shepherd, Jett, pictured above) and a cat mom (to a chic, but “crazy” kitty named Coco Chanel), but she also does her part to try and help all animals find safe and loving homes.

“When I was little, I didn’t even think about acting, I just wanted to be a veterinarian,” Greene told us.

But even though the 13-year-old star found her way to the screen, she still follows the call to care for animals.

In fact, Greene got a really early start when it came to giving a helping hand to furry, pawed friends. “When I was in the second or third grade, I set up a fundraiser at my school for the ASPCA. People would come in and put their allowance in the jar,” Greene said. “I raised $200 for them, which was a big deal for me.”

But even as her career takes off, the star still spends time with animal charities and advocacy groups, including supporting the recent launch of a spay and neuter clinic at the Los Angeles ASPCA.

“It’s not even work for me, it’s just fun and it’s important to get the word out,” she says. “Animals can’t speak for themselves, so we need to have a voice to speak for them.”

Greene’s love of animals off-screen has helped her form a strong bond with her four-legged “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn” co-star, best known as Squishy Paws.

“He is seriously my right-hand man,” Greene says of the pup, pictured below.”Every day at lunch I get out and I walk him so I can spend as much time with him as possible. I love that dog so much.”

Whether she’s back at home in Texas with Jett (“We play fetch, of course, it’s always fun to have him around”) or checking out her favorite Instagram animals like Roux the cat born without front legs (“She’s the most amazing, inspiring animal I’ve ever seen”), Greene just hopes her love of pets inspires a new generation.

“If you have a local shelter, go volunteer as much as you can because they need all the help they can get,” Greene said. “I really stand by ‘Adopt, Don’t Shop,’ too. It’s the one of the most important ways you can get involved.”
