Carrie Fisher’s Dog Gary Is a Wonderful Reminder of His Beloved Mama

The heartbreaking passing of iconic actress Carrie Fisher, as well as the loss of her equally legendary mother Debbie Reynolds, has been nothing short of devastating.

Fisher was beloved, not only by her friends, family, colleagues and her legions of fans, but by her devoted therapy dog, Gary.

Gary, an adorable French bulldog whose tongue was almost always sticking out, served as Carrie’s helper for her bi-polar disorder, as well as her dates on the red carpet and hilariously memorable television appearances.

In a 2013 interview with the Herald-Tribune, the Star Wars actress said of her pup, “Gary is like my heart. Gary is very devoted to me and that calms me down. He’s anxious when he’s away from me.”

The two were an inseparable and inspirational pair. Carrie’s no-nonsense personality and Gary’s delightful disposition made them the best duo in Hollywood.

Since his time in the spotlight alongside his famous mama, Gary became something of a star himself, with his own wildly popular Instagram page, as well as a fan-made Twitter feed.

After Fisher’s passing on December 27, social media became a place of healing and remembrance, and Gary has been a huge part of that.

On his fan page, this heart-wrenching post of Gary looking out a window with the caption, “I’ll still be waiting for you” has earned over 25,000 retweets.

On December 28, Gary’s Instagram page shared a photo of Carrie Fisher’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with the message, “I miss her soooo much, she was the BEST mOm eVeR!!”

It has been reported that Carrie’s daughter Billie Lourd will take care of Gary, so this amazing pooch will continue to be loved and cared for by his family.

For the fans who adored both Carrie and Gary, both of their social media pages, as well as their documented adventures together (from press tours to talk show visits), will serve as a tribute to Fisher’s incredible life as an acclaimed actress—and devoted pet parent.

Gary will also, perhaps most importantly, carry along the message that people living with bi-polar disorder are fighters and can lead incredible lives (something Fisher was a great advocate for), and that therapy dogs serve an important purpose on this Earth.
