This time of year I am craving traditional recipes. Eggnog is one of those. I know you either love it or hate it. I just love it and there is no reason this Christmas classic should be for the two-legged only.
Pet parents still debate whether or not a dog should eat raw eggs. Some vets encourage it, while others warn against it. ‘Tis not the season to argue—so I came up with an eggless eggnog that is incredibly delicious.
The recipe contains 458 calories.
Food processor or blender, measuring cup, serving bowl, dog taste-tester
- 1/2 small banana
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- ½ cup coconut milk
- 4 pitted and chopped Medjool dates
- Pinch of cinnamon
Place all ingredients in your food processor or blender and mix until smooth and creamy. Serve immediately!
Many human eggnog recipes use grated nutmeg. NEVER give you dog nutmeg. Nutmeg is toxic to dogs and high levels can be fatal. So make sure to keep your spices and foods that contain nutmeg well out of doggy reach.
Did you know it is believed that eggnog originated in Britain as a wintertime drink? Due to the expensive price of milk, egg and sherry at that time, it became popular with the British aristocracy. In the 18th century it came to the U.S colonies where the expensive brandy was changed to rum. The name is a combination of to slang words grog (rum) and noggins which where small wooden mugs used to serve egg-n-grog, now know as eggnog.
