Your September Monthly Horoscope—and What It Means for Your Pet

Are you and your pet prepared for an eventful month? Better strap in! September starts off with one of the biggest planetary transits of the year as Mars goes into retrograde on September 9. What does this mean for your monthly horoscope? Let’s find out!

During a Mars retrograde, we get to take a good, hard look at how we go about getting what we really want. Use this time to make changes and reassess if you’re questioning the direction in which you’re headed. By mid-month, Jupiter may bring you the chance to begin moving forward with your dreams, be that a new job opportunity or simply more time to cuddle up with your pet!

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Time to practice patience. (You'll be hearing that a lot over the next couple of months!) The stars may be sparking some internal change and frustrations may build, so remember that your beloved pet can be a great source of stress-relief. Join them for an extra bit of play and exploration when the pressure builds. Treat them like royalty with treats (American Journey Snacking Sticks are an especially yummy choice), and, remember, don't sweat the small stuff.

As for your work life, your monthly horoscope predicts that you'll be presented with an opportunity to take on a new role. It may seem like a thankless position, but be patient (there's that word again!). By month's end, you'll be recognized for your outstanding contribution.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

For much of this month, you'll feel like nesting, and recharging your energy will become a priority. Whether you've been out and about as an essential worker during the last several months or barely leaving your house, you'll find joy in spending time at home with your fur kids. Take the opportunity to redo your digs and consider home features made especially for pets, such as wall-mounted shelving where your cat can climb and perch.

September won’t be all snuggles and Netflix, mind you: Mid-month, you may have a chance to break out of a rut. Prepare to feel fired up and excited for the future—whatever it may hold.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Throughout the month, you may notice some unexpected, hidden talents beginning to surface. Explore wherever that natural curiosity of yours may take you. On the home front, your pets could stand to learn a few new tricks of their own, as well! Spend some time teaching your pooch a fun trick (shaking paws is always a crowd pleaser) with some yummy training treats, and record any funny bloopers to share. Who knows—one may even go viral, or at least make your friends and family laugh! Speaking of friends, keep an eye out for a special friendship that could deepen and possibly turn into a new romance. Consider this a wild month for Geminis!

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Family obligations and your career commitments may seem to be crashing into one another this month. It may seem as if those you're working for don't appreciate your dedication, or a hiccup at work may result in you being hard on yourself. Just know that this is a temporary setback. Use it as an opportunity to ask yourself how to work smarter—not harder—moving forward. The end of the month will hold fun family time. If possible, try planning a short, safe getaway, or at least schedule some downtime to be with those you love the most. If you can manage to plan a weekend away, look into pet-friendly places that’ll allow the whole family to be together!

Leo (July 23-August 22)

Your September horoscope is looking great career-wise: Whether a new opportunity presents itself or you’re finally being recognized at your current job, you’ll see the results of your hard work begin to pay off. As the month progress though, try to leave yourself extra time to finish projects. You can avoid frustration with a little planning and going with the flow.

Even if you’re exhausted after a long day at the office (or home office), remember that your pets need their exercise! Do your best to get in some long walks and playtime with them. Try flinging around a teaser toy (try the Kong Active Feather Teaser) to help your kitty release some of their energy. And don’t let yourself get burnt out, either: We don’t need to tell you how important your health is.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

Because Virgos value simplicity, complicated relationships are so not your cup of tea. That's probably one of the (many) reasons why you and your fur baby are so close—your relationship is just pure, simple love! This month, share some unique experiences with your pet such as sharing a DIY treat you’ve whipped up in the kitchen, or treating your pup to a massage (you can learn how here!).

As for the human relationships in your life, you may find yourself dealing with a romantic partner who isn’t being completely honest or upfront about what they want. Proceed with caution if a hot and heavy romance seems too good to be true.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

Your relationships may go undergo some ups and downs in the coming weeks, but you’ll ultimately see them grow as you boldly state your needs. This month may not be the best time to make major commitments to anyone, though. You'll find yourself intuitively connected to your pets, so take careful notice of their behavior and how it changes as you make important decisions. Are they at peace? Then you’re probably on the right track. Are they acting “off?” Maybe that decision isn't right for you. Your pup or kitty may know best!

As for your work life, note that early in the month is the best time to ask for a raise or promotion. If all goes well, treat yourself to something special and invite your dog to the celebrations. (They’ll love this doggy ice cream from Pooch Creamery!)

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Work may seem intense this month, Scorpio, but you'll be able to accomplish a lot through sheer determination. You’ll experience some big wins throughout the month, but overachieving or taking on too much could bring challenges—so make sure to give yourself plenty of time to de-stress. Fortunately for you, you have a furry friend to cuddle and play with! If you’re not working from home and don’t have a pet-friendly office, be sure to schedule lots of playtime for you and your little love. Saying no to extra responsibilities this month is cosmically permissible. Instead of trying to do everything, just enjoy each moment as it comes. Our pets are always so in the moment—take a cue from them.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

You should play it on the safe side this month, Sag. Mars in retrograde may ignite your appetite for indulgence, so watch out if you find yourself filling your time with reckless endeavors. Instead, try to enhance your creative side. Build something, write something or engage in healthy competition (Zoom game night, anyone?). Try to include your pet in your new endeavors, too: Get out in nature and start exploring. If your dog isn’t the most athletic, snag a backpack dog carrier so you can two can adventure together. Even cats can get in on the hiking action.

While exploring the outside world, pay attention to your inner moral compass, too. It’ll tell you what’s right and may even lead you to a new passion you didn't know you had.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

You've been experiencing quite a massive personal transformation as of late and you’ll continue to push forward this month. While you won’t be able to move full steam ahead necessarily, the next few weeks will bring a chance to see just how far you've come. Your September horoscope also predicts the opportunity to resolve any family conflicts once and for all. Time to let your loved ones see the amazing person you've become!

As the month continues, look for a chance to take the lead and give back to your community. Is your dog or cat of the right temperament to be a therapy dog or cat? Look into what it takes to get certified. Or, consider volunteering at a shelter or working as an advocate for animals. Whatever you choose, you're ready to step out and make a difference.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

What does your monthly horoscope predict, Aquarius? You'll reach a point this month where you'll want to walk away from a struggle that threatens your positive state of mind. Good! That's right where you want to be: Learn to let it go.

Now that that’s out of the way, try to focus on making small changes to better your day-to-day life and relationships. Don’t be afraid to get creative when it comes to work, and spend time enriching the relationships that support and give you unconditional love—like that you receive from your furry, feathered, finned or scaled companion. Extra playtime can promote bonding, so take the opportunity to pick up a new toy or two, like this long and strong rope toy for pups or these feather wands for cats.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

This month, keep an eye out for new ways to better the health and diet of your pet, whether it’s adding a new multivitamin to their routine with your vet’s approval, or ensuring that they are up-to-date on their vaccines. Through the ups and downs of this month, your furry family will be your stability, so return the favor by working to keep them healthy, just as you always do.

Meanwhile, work issues may seem bigger than they are and Mars in retrograde may have your flight-or-fight mode on high alert—but that doesn't mean you should react (or overact) to everything. Try to get out of that negative mindset: Avoid exaggerating reality and listen to your intuition. If your gut is telling you that all will turn out well, listen to it and rest easy.
