DIY HelloFresh Pork Meatball with Green Beans Dog Treat

I love to cook. Grocery shopping, not so much. I value my time on the weekend. That’s when I get to sleep in with my husband and dog, go on fun adventures and make special memories with those I love. Thanks to the meal delivery service HelloFresh, I don’t have to take time away from my family to go to the store.

Another thing I love to do is spoil my 3-year-old mixed breed dog, Dexter, any chance I get. Like many dogs, he begs for food at the dinner table. But, since some of the ingredients, like garlic, are poisonous to dogs, I opt out of sharing the food off of my own plate.

Lucky for Dexter, his whines and puppy dog eyes during every meal broke my heart. So, I became a dog mom on a mission, determined to find a way to safely share my food with him. I started experimenting by taking bits and pieces of any of the dog-friendly ingredients I was cooking with to then create special treats for Dex.

When whipping up the honey-glazed pork tenderloin meal from my recent HelloFresh delivery, I created a doggy “meatball” treat with green bean “noodles” for Dex. It took no extra time in the kitchen as I cooked it while cooking my own meal. And I didn’t need to buy any extra ingredients because I just used a few items from the HelloFresh meal and a few from my pantry. Best of all, we got to sit down together as a family for a delicious bite to eat—with no begging!

It’s safe to say this DIY dog treat is one of his favorite creations I’ve made. And it might just be your dog’s favorite, too!

NOTE: This treat was crafted so that it can be easily made the same exact time you’re making your HelloFresh meal. For baking the vegetables, use a separate baking pan for your dog so there is no salt or pepper added to his. Also, when pan-frying the pork, do your dog’s first and then yours.
